Muharram 2016

Event details

SUMMARY:

Sabeel is a popular tradition amongst the lovers of Imam Hussein. Sabeel represents the most basic of characteristics of humanity; serving water to thirty travelers. This characteristic was absent in the enemies of Imam Hussein, who slaughtered the Imam's family, including his baby son Hazrat Ali Asghar.

Aside from the symbolism represented by the gesture which is a sabeel, it also is a very rewarding experience spiritually and physically. Its been recommended in many traditions that we should provide water to the thirsty. The rewards of which are multiplied if the person is a lover of Imam Hussain. But, if the lover is also attending a mourning ceremony for the family Imam Hussein, the rewards increase exponentially. So much so that they become infinite and all of Allah's creation prays for the person , serving the drink, to be blessed with all of Allah's blessings.

ASA members had an opportunity to experience this exemplary act themselves. While doing so, they felt the importance and rewards of this experience in-person. Aside from sabeel, the members helped setup and clean the community center before and after the majalis. Some members even volunteered to baby sit the community's kids, so they would not create disturbances during the ceremony.  The amount of passion in our youth was unimaginable. We had a great turn-out of volunteers and the event was a success; complimented by many in the community.
